# send21 as a Coinbase Commerce alternative

Coinbase's merchant payments now run through a Coinbase Business account: according to Coinbase's developer documentation, checkouts and payment links credit the funds to that account. send21 takes a different route: every payment goes straight to a wallet you control.

## What is different

| | Coinbase (Business checkouts and payment links) | send21 |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Where the payment lands | Credited to your Coinbase Business account | Your own wallet, directly |
| Account | A Coinbase Business account | An email address; no exchange account |
| Conversion to fiat | Available in your Coinbase account | Not offered; send21 never touches money |
| What payers can use | See Coinbase for current assets and networks | BTC on-chain and Lightning, USDC, USDT, EURC, SOL, ETH on six networks |
| Fee | Coinbase shows your rate when you create a payment link | 0.49% down to 0.01%, capped at $100 |

## Choose Coinbase if

- You already run your business on Coinbase and want payments and conversion in that account.
- You want refunds handled from the provider account.

## Choose send21 if

- You want the money in your own wallet from the first second, not in a provider account.
- You want Lightning and EURC next to USDC, or prices in any of 161 currencies.
- You build with AI agents: an [MCP server](https://send21.io/docs/mcp), scoped keys that cannot spend, and addresses only you approve.
